Recent world history points to a dangerous increase in global human conflict, coupled with an alarming deterioration in the condition of our planet Earth. Regrettably, advances in scientific knowledge have not been systematically applied either to the care and preservation of the living world or to the natural resources of Earth itself. Politicians and the political process have often fallen short of true international development and wise environmental management in the pursuit of narrow national interests and economic advantage. World religions, too, have been seen to have been misused in the pursuit of national and cultural self-interest, and a more general expression of spiritual consciousness has not, to date, been able to bring humanity together in the service of peace and goodwill.

With the Earth seen to be at an environmental crisis point and all of human existence increasingly at risk, the Shen Foundation has been established to encourage, coordinate and sustain the efforts of all people who share deep concern for the future of humanity and the better environmental management of the world. The Foundation uses the Chinese word shen as representing a universally-present higher form of healing spiritual energy.

The Foundation is committed to finding solutions to the planetary crisis through deep respect for the wisdom of Nature in a naturally evolving world in which science and technology should be used wisely to support and encourage the welfare and harmony of all forms of life.
