VIDEO REVIEWSWe are always looking for massage therapists to work at our 5 London branches or qualified massage therapists who just want to be added onto our Corporate Massage Therapists list.

The Walk-in Backrub massage routine is a simple yet very effective form of seated massage therapy.

It is a Japanese Shiatsu & Chinese Tuina based massage that has been tried and tested and has proved successful in all our branches for over 17 years.

In order to work at one of our shops you will need to complete a Walk-in Backrub training day to learn our chair massage routine.

On Site Massage Course
The 1 day on site massage training course is essential for all new practitioners, as it covers how to use the ergonomic massage chairs and teaches Chinese & Japanese chair massage routine,

and whilst it is not written in stone we do request that our routine is followed in general to provide consistency amongst our practitioners and for all our customers. read some reviews of the course

The next 1 day chair massage course is

What happens on the Walk-in Backrub Training Day?

You will learn in detail the 10-minute Chair Massage routine, as it is necessary to be able to fit in all the techniques in 10 minutes.

The 20 and 30-minute routines follow the same basic pattern, but allow you more time to work more thoroughly and concentrate on specific areas of tension. We will also show you the best way to use a massage chair.

For those looking to work at the Walk-in Back after the training day

You will need to book in for an assessment to show us that you have learnt the routine.

We suggest the assessment takes place after a minimum of 15 practice sessions for the 10-minute routine.

When you are confident with the 10 minute back rub please call Head Office on 0207 436 9875 or email us to book an assessment.

At the assessment you will be asked to demonstrate the 10 minute Backrub.

The assessment is designed to be relaxed and informal.

Straight after the assessment you will receive an hour one to one training. Cost £10

This is an excellent opportunity to get feedback from a walk-in backrub teacher on any areas of your massage, which may benefit from improvement.

The assessment and one to one training takes place at

11 Charlotte Place, London. W1T 1SJ.

Following a successful assessment, and having up to date insurance, you will be ready to start work.

The Walk-in Backrub needs to have "cover" practitioners trained and ready to fill gaps caused by people leaving or not being able to work, and newly trained practitioners are on this cover list.

We usually offer on site massage training days when we are low on practitioners. You will probably be offered "cover" work initially and as changes occur, regular days will be offered.

Equally you are welcome to just do cover days if that suits you better.

FAQ

What do I need to bring to the Training Day?
It is important that you bring a clean cotton t-shirt as this is the best material for practising the massage. You also need loose comfortable clothes, soft shoes, clean hands short nails and some lunch.

The day is really designed to be hands on but some people may like to bring along a pad for notes.

If you are attending the training to work for the walk in Backrub, please also bring along a photocopy of your qualification and insurance.

If you are not presently insured, this is fine with regard to the training day but it will need to be arranged before you can be offered any work.

If you have multiple qualifications, you are welcome to bring copies of them. Massage, Shiatsu and Reflexology are the main ones we are interested in.

Practitioner Income:

Practitioner earnings equates to around £26per hour of hands on Back Rubbing, Backrub Earnings are approximately £60 - £120 per day.

On-Site Office Visits & Corporate Massage:

If you want to just do the training and go onto the books for on-site, this is fine. On-site practitioners earn around £25per hour. This still requires an assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How many people attend the training day?
We have a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 people.

Am I guaranteed to be offered work if I do the Training Day?

No there isn't any guarantee that you will be offered work.
We try to select people who are able to give a good Backrub and have good customer service skills. However we do try to give people the benefit of the doubt, and sometimes offer people work if we feel they may be able to improve with practice.

How soon will I be offered a regular day?

Normally new practitioners cover shift for established practitioners first and then we offer regular chair rental days when they become available. We tend to train around 8 people, and then once these people have regular days, we do another training day. In view of this it"s not possible to give an exact figure, but we try to offer people work as soon as it becomes available.

Where are the Walk in Backrub Branches?

They are at Neal"s Yard (Covent Garden), Charlotte Place (Goodge Street), Kingly Court (Carnaby Street), Selfridges (Oxford Street) and Chancery Lane.

What are the hours?

Different shops have different hours but normally around 7 hours a day.

What if I cannot make the training day?

You can cancel your booking at any time and we will refund you the full amount.

However, cancellations within 7 days of the course are non refundable.
